The world of sports and fashion collided on Monday night at New York City’s Saks Fifth Avenue to celebrate the exclusive launch of the “Dsquared2 x Dwyane Wade” capsule collection. Wade was joined by Dsquared2’s designer duo, twins Dan and Dean Caten—who’ve all been friends since they met during the 2011 Milan Fashion Week—as well as vice president and men’s fashion director of Saks, Eric Jennings.
“I am thrilled to partner with Dsquared2 on a collection for Saks Fifth Avenue that expresses our shared vision of fashion as a means of creative expression,” Wade said to a crowd of fans, supporters and fellow industry personnel.
“Dean and Dan push boundaries and redefine fashion. I have incredible respect for what they do. Collaborating with two of the world’s most creative visionaries is a dream come true, and we are creating a high fashion collection that embodies fit, style and bold elegance.”
The “Dsquared2 x Dwyane Wade” collection is comprised of nine pieces, which highlight his easy-going charm and signature style, attitude and fit of the Catens’ brand. From a biker jacket and joggers to a tuxedo jacket and crystal-accented collar shirt, the line consists of both day and evening looks to suit the everyday man with an elevated fashion sense.
Overall, Wade is one of the most innovative, fashion-forward players in the NBA. Working with his longtime stylist, Calyann Barnett, he has his own line of Stance socks and neckties with The Tie Bar, as well as “Way of Wade” footwear in partnership with the Chinese sportswear company Li-Ning.
Also, for the past five years, he’s hosted his own mini-fashion week, “A Night on the RunWade,” along with his wife and actress, Gabrielle. And this year for the first time, they opened a pop-up shop during All-Star Weekend, which featured their hand-picked items and brands from Fancy.com. They also attend major fashion weeks every year, where he’s become friends with industry icons, including Anna Wintour.
With more and more players breaking into fashion, Wade told Fashionista.com at the Saks event, “You have to show [the fashion] on you first. You get the eyes on you first and you can’t be afraid to take chances. You can’t be afraid of people commenting or talking about you.”
The “Dsquared2 x Dwyane Wade” collection is available exclusively at select Saks locations and on Saks.com.
