Continuing its commitment to communities nationwide, the NBPA hosted its 2012 Annual Great Turkey Giveaway this Thanksgiving, feeding thousands of families from coast to coast.
Distributing 6,000 USDA Grade A turkeys, the NBPA, with the participation of its players, brightened the holiday season for so many in need throughout the San Antonio, New York City, New Orleans, Atlanta, Houston, Miami and Los Angeles areas. Turkeys were distributed at a number of these cities’ Boys & Girls Clubs, with the help of NBA players, including Matt Bonner, Roger Mason, Jr., Zaza Pachulia, Anthony Tolliver, James Jones and Maurice Evans, as well as NBA veterans Theo Ratliff, Purvis Short and Roy Hinson.
The Giveaway was highlighted by its fun and upbeat distribution event held at the NBPA headquarters in Harlem, NY. Nearly 2,000 people were treated to the sounds of DJ Cosi, as NBA veteran and New York native John Wallace, as well as WNBA player and Harlem native Shannon Bobbitt, passed out turkeys, signed autographs and took photos with fans. NBPA Executive Director was also outside meeting and greeting with members of the community.
“Our Turkey Giveaway is truly a highlight of the year for the NBPA, its players and staff,” said Hunter. “We are humbled by the opportunity to deliver some joy and cheer to the many people out there in need, especially during the holiday season.”
