New York, NY (May 7, 2019) — The National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) is proud to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the NBPA TOP 100 High School Basketball Camp (TOP 100), set to take place June 11-16, 2019 at the University of Virginia’s John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, VA. TOP 100 is the premier basketball camp for elite high school student-athletes around the world. Since its inception in 1994, over 400 players have transitioned into successful careers in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Through classroom discussions and a comprehensive on and off-the-court basketball program, TOP 100 emphasizes character, education, and skill development as the core principles necessary to maximize a player’s potential.

“Getting invited to the NBPA Top 100 Camp was awesome to me, sitting in classrooms, learning, and being around other great players in that whole environment made you feel like you were one step closer to becoming a professional,” said DeMar DeRozan, an NBPA TOP 100 alumni and 4x NBA All Star.

In addition to reaching this milestone, TOP 100 will host NCAA scouting personnel for the first time in the history of the camp as a sanctioned live event.  NBA scouting personnel are also invited to observe the camp for the second consecutive year.

“This is a pivotal and exciting time for TOP 100,” said Purvis Short, NBPA Chief of Player Programs and 12-year NBA veteran. “As we celebrate 25 years of developing the next generation of elite basketball players, it is equally as rewarding to provide a platform where these athletes can gain the direct exposure needed to take them to the next level in a dynamic and productive environment.”

Furthermore, TOP 100 has created a unique educational opportunity for current and former NBA players who are interested in learning what it takes to become a coach. For 16 years, the Coaching Program has run in conjunction with the camp and affords participating professional basketball players the opportunity to gain hands-on experience coaching a team, learning how to teach basketball skills and fundamentals and running high-level practices for the best high school players in the world. The program also highlights guest speakers and professional coaches who provide detailed analysis and guidance on how best to prepare for a career in coaching.

Another core element of the camp, the Parent Program, was added in 2003 for parents to learn alongside their children. The first of its kind among any elite camp, this interactive program informs parents about the recruiting process and beyond, providing them with the proper tools to aid in the campers’ lifetime success. The Parent Program is a diverse educational program available to parents or guardians who attend the camp.

ABOUT THE NATIONAL BASKETBALL PLAYERS ASSOCIATION

The National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) is the union for current professional basketball players in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Established in 1954, the NBPA’s mission is to ensure that the rights of NBA players are protected and that every conceivable measure is taken to assist players in maximizing their opportunities and achieving their goals — on and off the court.

The NBPA advocates on behalf of the best interest of all NBA players, including the negotiation of collective bargaining agreements, the filing of grievances on behalf of the players, or counseling players on benefits, educational and post-NBA career opportunities.

In addition, the NBPA provides a forum for players to participate in union activities — from executive leadership roles to team representative positions, global community outreach initiatives. The NBPA offers each NBA player the opportunity to get involved in the democratic institution that was created for, continues to exist for and is run by them.
