Jeff Aubry selected as the Executive Director of the Next Gen Basketball Players Union

The Next Gen Basketball Players Union is the union for NBA G League players and was officially established in the summer of 2020

NEW YORK, NY, March 28, 2023 – The Next Gen Basketball Players Union (NGBPU), the union for NBA G League players, announced today that Jeff Aubry has been selected to serve as its first official Executive Director. Aubry will take over from NBPA Deputy General Counsel David Foster, who served as the interim Executive Director of the NGBPU since its formation in the summer of 2020. In this role, Aubry will direct affairs of the NGBPU on a day-to-day basis, manage the NGBPU’s collective bargaining relationship with the NBA G League, develop new commercial and business opportunities to grow the NGBPU, and lead in the creation and implementation of an agent regulation program, among other responsibilities.

Aubry played basketball professionally for 18 years, competing at various levels from 1998-2016. During his lengthy career, Aubry was selected in the first-ever NBA Development League Draft and went on to play with several teams in the NBA G League and abroad in Argentina, Canada, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Peru, Poland, Puerto Rico, Spain, Switzerland, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

Aubry most recently served as the Senior Director of Player Development at the National Basketball Association (NBA), beginning in 2016. In this role, Aubry designed and managed educational programming and events for current and former players around financial literacy, mental health & wellness, continuing education, and more. Additionally, Aubry designed and led the development of the Rookie Transition Program, a program responsible for onboarding rookie players and introducing them to all aspects of life as professional athletes on and off the court.

Aubry received his B.S. in Industrial and Labor Relations in 1999 from Cornell University and his M.S. in Sports Management in 2017 from Columbia University.

“It’s with great pleasure and excitement that I assume this role as the Executive Director of the Next Gen Basketball Players Union,” said Jeff Aubry, Executive Director of the NGBPU. “As a former G League player myself, I know these players are working tirelessly every day to improve their skills, grow the game, and win in this extremely competitive league. G League players are professionals in every sense and deserve to have a union to advocate for their best interests and well-being both on and off the court. It’s an honor and a privilege to serve in this position, and I look forward to connecting and working with the players of the G League.”

“Coming together to form a union in 2020 for G League players was a historic moment, and I was proud to assist in the organizing efforts,” said Andre Ingram, President of the NGBPU. “Bringing in Jeff Aubry to serve as the Executive Director of the NGBPU was a natural fit given Jeff’s deep understanding of the G League experience and his vision to empower us as G League players in all aspects of life. This is just the beginning, and we have a great opportunity to enhance the G League experience for current and future generations of players, as well as honor those who have come before!”

“I am so excited to welcome Jeff Aubry into this role and begin this new and exciting chapter for the Next Gen Basketball Players Union,” said Tamika Tremaglio, Executive Director of the NBPA. “David Foster has done an amazing job as the interim Executive Director, and we are grateful for his leadership in this role. G League players bring such tremendous value as ambassadors of our game, and I am confident that Jeff will be their biggest advocate for collective long-term success.”
