NBA G League Collective Bargaining Agreement – Key Deal Points
The following is a summary of certain key changes in the new NBA G League/NGBPU Collective Bargaining Agreement. New CBA terms will take effect immediately.
I. Term of Agreement
The new CBA will have a four-year term commencing with the 2025-26 season and continuing through the 2028-29 season, with each party having the option to terminate the agreement one year early (i.e., following the 2027-28 season) by providing notice to the other party on or before October 1, 2027.
II. Salary
- Standard Salary: The standard player salary will increase by 4.7% to $45,000 for the 2025-26 season, and then grow by 3% each season thereafter.
- Enhanced Minimum Salary Payment: Any player who is on a G League roster for the entire season and does not receive any compensation from an NBA team (i.e., an Exhibit 10 bonus or base compensation) in respect of the corresponding NBA season will receive an “Enhanced Minimum Salary Payment” of $5,000 for the 2025-26 season (with such payment amount growing by 3% each season thereafter).
III. Developmental System
- Affiliate Players: The number of players that each team can designate as “Affiliate Players” will be increased from four to five.
- Returning Player Rights: Beginning with the 2026-27 season, the number of years for which a team will hold “Returning Player Rights” for a player who has been in the NBA or G League for at least three seasons will be one year (reduced from two years).
- Buyouts: Beginning with the 2026-27 season, the buyout amount will be reduced from $50,000 to $30,000 for players who have been in the NBA or G League for at least five seasons.
IV. Benefits
The new CBA will provide:
- Full health insurance reimbursements for veteran players;
- Greater access to mental health resources for all G League players;
- Increased salary continuation payments to a player who is waived due to an injury suffered while playing for his G League team; and
- A 15% increase in the player per diem amount for the 2025-26 season, with such amount increasing by 3% each season thereafter.
V. Professional Experience Standards
The new CBA will reflect enhanced professional experience standards for G League players, including in the following ways.
- Travel: Players will be provided a better travel experience, including by teams making reasonable efforts to secure more spacious airline seating and full-size charter buses.
- Nutrition: Players will be provided with training tables before or after all home games.
- Housing: Players will be provided individual housing at home and individual hotel rooms when on the road.
- Facilities: Teams will make reasonable efforts to provide players access to basketball workout facilities during extended working hours in the team’s home market.
- Wearables: G League players may be required by the G League or their teams to use approved wearable devices in games, practices, or other activities, subject to certain guidelines and limitations on use.
- Career Development Opportunities: The NGBPU and the G League will form a committee aimed at developing career development opportunities and programming, including mentorship programs, job skills training, and offseason internship and employment opportunities.
