Player Activism

Since the Union’s inception, the members of the NBPA have, individually and collectively, utilized their platforms to advocate for and promote positive social change. The courage and commitment of our members – past and present – have provided a voice for and opened avenues towards the pursuit of justice for aggrieved and socially disenfranchised members of communities across this country and around the world.

We teamed up with @DoveMenCare to announce the Commit to C.A.R.E initiative. This partnership, inspired by the actions taken by players around the league in support of racial and social justice, aims to showcase, honor and celebrate the humanity of Black men while addressing a number of issues such as public safety, safe and fair voting, community engagement and the portrayal of Black men in the media. Support #committocarenow.

Since the beginning of the season restart, the NBPA and the players have been committed in making sure that basketball would not serve as a distraction from issues related to racial injustice and inequality. To further amplify this movement, we highlighted Black-owned businesses and entrepreneurs in the bubble that not only pushed the culture forward — but enriched their communities as well.

As part of the NBPA’s mission to inspire, uplift and empower Black-owned businesses, the NBPA’s Protect, Support, Amplify Black-Owned Businesses campaign gives a platform to Black-owned businesses and entrepreneurs who are driving positive change in their communities. #450SupportsBlack

NBPA Town Hall Series

The NBPA teamed up with Business Inside the Game (B.I.G.) to curate a town hall series. Each town hall consists of conversations about the NBPA’s mission, which is to Protect, Support and Amplify the players and their voices, and how that mission has evolved throughout this season and in light of recent events. The conversations also discuss player-led initiatives around social justice and voting and ways that we can all impact change in our communities.
